A British man who was prescribed Viagra for his penis has been sentenced to six months in prison and ordered to pay $1.2 million in restitution, in part for his role in selling counterfeit Viagra.
Tobacco filters containing a product found on an Internet pharmacy in Vancouver, British Columbia, were being sold by a store on Vancouver's Main Street, where the man sold the counterfeit drugs for more than $1.5 million.
A Vancouver-based investigation of a pharmacy was launched by Health Canada in February to identify and investigate.
A search of the Web and user profiles of the store's customer service representatives revealed that the company had also received a tip from a doctor about a counterfeit Viagra. The doctor advised the pharmacy to remove the fake drug, but said it could not be sold.
The investigation also found that the man had bought the counterfeit Viagra through another store. When asked about the counterfeit Viagra, the man said he did not believe that the product was fake.
A court spokesman said the doctor's statement that the man was not selling the counterfeit drug was not made in connection with the investigation.
