“The expiration of the Viagra exclusivity letter in April 2020 triggered a rush of generic pharmaceutical companies to Latin America to manufacture Viagra in the U. and Mexico,” the FDA said in its announcement. “We are pleased to add that the expiration of the exclusivity letter in Mexico is a result of this and other similar decisions by our international regulatory bodies and our partners.”
Viagra was the first FDA-approved generic drug to treat PAH in men, and was the first drug to be approved for erectile dysfunction. Pfizer’s Sanofi/Agenix AG, the company that brought Pfizer its first generic, is among those that made Viagra available in the United States in the summer of 2019.
